The Reason the Democratic Party is Hiding its Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: The Inside Story.

The decision by the Democratic National Committee to suppress the release of its internal post-election analysis on the last presidential race appears remarkable but entirely predictable. Averse to unpleasant candor, the DNC behaves closer to a PR firm rather than an electoral entity devoted to cultivating local power to secure victories.

A Culture of Conformity

Hesitant to break with the party establishment's culture demanding unity, the DNC has stayed under the influence of the previous administration throughout 2025. Publishing an official autopsy could have demonstrated whether the leadership truly desire to encourage open debate regarding the strategic failures that paved the way for Donald Trump to become president again. Yet, the DNC is proceeding under the pretense that there's nothing to glean following the electoral catastrophe from the last cycle.

Our guiding principle: does this help us win? If not, it is an unnecessary diversion from the core mission," a justification reportedly given to justify concealing the analysis.

Key Issues an Analysis Could Have Addressed

A genuine analysis worth its salt would not dodge key points of failure. Among them are:

  • Voter Alienation: The loss of millions of voters who voted for the party's candidate in 2020 was decisive during the tight recent race.
  • The Decision to Run: The unwavering insistence of a party leader to run again, alongside a very late exit, has been criticized as robbing the party's base of a competitive nomination process.
  • Abandoning Core Democratic Voters: During a time of inflation, the campaign reportedly bowing to elite contributors while failing to confront the impact of profit-seeking.
  • A Foreign Policy Effect: The failure to adjust a stance concerning a ongoing war is cited as driving away significant blocs, especially with youth voters, Arab American communities, Muslim voters.
  • Losing Young Voter Allegiance: Polling data demonstrates a huge drop-off in votes for the candidate from voters aged 18-29.

A History Avoiding Accountability

Choosing secrecy aligns with a longstanding habit to avoid uncomfortable facts. It echoes an episode in which the vast majority of elected Democrat in Congress went along with a sitting president's insistence on running for re-election until a catastrophic campaign event led to a change.

At the same time, large majorities of Democratic voters had been repeatedly informing researchers that they did not want the incumbent to seek re-election.

Financial Concerns

An honest autopsy could examine matters regarding where money went, such as how much money flowed to party strategists as well as media firms during an electoral effort that managed to spend a colossal war chest in a short period.

A Broader Implication

At its core, the blockage of the official autopsy highlights an allegiance to the established hierarchy responsible for an unsuccessful electoral effort. The signal to ordinary supporters – including countless small donors – appears to be that they do not have a right to see the lessons the insiders have learned from an analysis based on feedback from all states.

A party incapable to honestly assess its mistakes is unlikely to escape the pattern that proved so advantageous to the rival party.
