It's difficult for the Australian squad to set fresh records.

The greatest achievements have already been conquered.

We're talking about the squad that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to six more T20 titles, and once went nearly four years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, targeted by the peak baggers, are the only things left for a team that has accomplished all there is.

That it took until Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the highest in the women's 50-over format, is, honestly, a compliment to the bowlers that have represented Australia over the last half-century.

It is hard for their batsmen to hold a record if never given the opportunity.

Ultimately, the consequence of Australia conceding 330 was leader Alyssa Healy getting an opportunity to create her most recent brilliance.

Originally famous as the young family member of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her country didn't secure either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has seen it all through 15 successful years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup happened three months after her first appearance and seven global championships have followed from 10 efforts across formats.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the title decider and was named player of the tournament. She guaranteed her country would not fail again.

Whether this newest brilliant performance topped that previous effort remains open for discussion.

Many contend the reasoning behind the pressure of a final. Some might respond with the difficulty that comes when facing a record target and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's clear is this century was much more difficult to predict.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 happened while she was the highest scorer, but this innings was preceded by six games in India over the past few weeks in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"For those following me in training, it's been a disappointing period because it seemed my form was missing at all," commented Healy.

"Yet the moment you take the field, your competitive instincts take over and you completely engage with the contest."

Healy's competitiveness has consistently been her key asset - and an irreplaceable characteristic in taking over from famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, dismissed by the 22-year-old seamer in all three matches, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's spark.

A single came off the opening delivery and from that point Healy was in motion.

"A chance to go out there and engage in competition with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, somewhat inspired me," commented Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 pitches - her quickest at the global tournament - and her century in 84 as she flogged anything short, scoring 21 fours and three maximums.

When she was dismissed the team needed 66 more at one run per ball - an unconquered height now needing a comfortable finish.

"Chasing 330 runs is new territory so I'm happy we have the assurance to do that now," added Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, should it happen, we believe we can achieve it."

That comment will be the ultimate thing Australia's opponents at this tournament should hear.

Over the past five days a belief they will win from any position has only strengthened - this triumph succeeding victory over Pakistan by 107 runs despite struggling at 76-7 at one point.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a meeting with old rivals England in Indore in ten days, by which point a last-four spot may well be secure.

It was at that stage they left last year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - an encounter Healy was absent due to damaged tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the first time at an important competition.

So great is her will, she later said she regretted not playing with the discomfort.

However although she subsequently acknowledged those fitness problems have postponed thoughts of retirement, this World Cup is likely to be her concluding event as leader in one-day cricket and she is yet to win a global event as captain.

Victory in India would bring her to the top of her final mountain.
