Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat

Arne Slot admitted that it was understandable for questions to be raised about his position following another heavy loss against the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 games, representing the club's poorest run since being demoted in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received a lot of support from the top,” the coach remarked.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”

He noted, “I am OK with my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”

He added, “In the normal exchanges I sense the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so we'll see.”

Familiar Issues and Player Reaction

Slot highlighted recurring shortcomings from his team in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones said.

“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”

He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen this club for years.”

“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a spell of this nature with performances so bad.”

Jones finished, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until it is gone, we'll continue to fight.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, prove again the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the planet.”

“However currently, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
