Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several key changes:

  • Every squad has only 8 real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by human gamers award complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.

In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives more options for gamers looking for different methods to have fun with the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are upset.

Player Reactions: Anger to Support

"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while someone else details everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," and another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Concerns and Community Input

All that said, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make queue times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of options currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. So this new playlist seems like the community meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

Should the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
